English learning apps for ages 4–6 compared

Updated 2026-10-12 · English for Fun

We make English for Fun, so this table cannot be perfectly neutral. That is why it only uses what each developer states on its own store listing, links every source, and says plainly when another app may suit you better.

When another app may suit you better

  • Completely free with phonics: Khan Academy Kids or Duolingo ABC. Both have no ads. Their instructions and stories are in English, which suits children who already understand some English.
  • Many subjects and several child profiles: Lingokids.
  • A large programme with many levels and languages: Monkey Junior.

When English for Fun fits

  • Your child is 4–6 and just starting English, and your family speaks another language at home.
  • You prefer one payment with no auto-renewing plan, and a 14-day refund.
  • You do not want to create an account for your child or install another app.
  • You want maths and shapes in English too, plus free printables for screen-free practice.
  • Try the first island of every game free on the games page.

Information about other apps comes from their App Store and Google Play listings on 12 October 2026 and may have changed since. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
