How to help your child love learning and learn on their own

Updated 2026-10-12 · English for Fun

Today AI can answer almost any question. What it cannot do for us is love learning, teach ourselves and keep going with discipline. That is why English for Fun exists. These skills grow from very small habits, starting young.

Six principles

  • Let your child choose: the topic, the island, the game. Choosing makes learning theirs.
  • Right-sized challenge: not so easy that it bores, not so hard that it discourages.
  • Praise effort, not just results: "You tried three times, well done!" rather than only "You are so clever!".
  • Mistakes are normal: a wrong tap is just a try, not a failure.
  • Small daily habits: same time, same place, ten minutes. Discipline starts with regularity.
  • Let your child teach you: "Can you teach me this word?" Explaining is the deepest way to learn.

Where self-discipline starts

  • Your child ticks a calendar each day they practise.
  • Stop while it is still fun. Tomorrow they will want to come back.
  • Keep the time promise: when time is up, the screen goes off, even mid-game.

How English for Fun supports this

  • Children choose their own island and pack.
  • A wrong tap is never punished; the game lets them try again.
  • Letter Island and Number Island bring back yesterday's learning for review.
  • Stars, stickers and albums make progress visible.
  • The Progress page shows parents how regular the practice is.
