- "An" goes before a vowel sound: an apple, an orange, an egg.
- Strawberry starts with three consonants, "str". Say it slowly first: s-traw-berry.
- Mealtimes are the easiest English lesson: name what is on the plate.
Play at home
- At the table ask "What is this?" and answer together: "It is rice."
- Play shop with real fruit: "Can I have an apple, please?"
- Sort pictures into "fruit" and "not fruit".

Questions
Why do we say "some milk" and not "a milk"?
Milk, rice, bread and juice are usually not counted one by one in English, so they take "some" instead of "a".
Is tomato a fruit or a vegetable?
Scientists call it a fruit; cooks treat it as a vegetable. Either answer is a good conversation with a curious child.
