How to write a cause and effect essay

Short answer: A cause and effect essay explains why something happens or what it leads to. Open with the event and your focus (causes, effects or both), give each cause or effect its own paragraph with an example, link them with because, as a result and so, and close by tying them together.

A model text

Many students feel tired at school, and the reasons are simple.

One cause is a late bedtime. Because students stay up with their phones, they sleep only six hours.

As a result, they lose focus in class, and their marks fall.

Better sleep habits would solve both the cause and the effect.
