A model text
Last summer, I learned to swim in a cold river.
At first, I was afraid. The water was dark, and I could not see the bottom.
Then my uncle held my hands, and I kicked as hard as I could. Slowly, my feet left the ground.
Finally, I swam three meters alone. I shouted with joy.
Now I know that fear can be smaller than it looks.
- The introduction sets the scene.
- The events follow time order.
- The conclusion gives the meaning.
Common mistakes
Yesterday I go to the river.→ Yesterday I went to the river.
Use the past tense.Events jump back and forth.→ Tell the events in order.
Follow the timeline. The story ends without meaning.→ End with what you learned.
Give it a purpose.
